Does Laser Ablation Work?

This is a great question to ask. At the Vein Institute of New Jersey, we want to ensure you have the best and most accurate information when it comes to your health decisions. Despite its years of existence, laser ablation is still considered a “new” method for ridding oneself of unwanted varicose veins. But, it’s a treatment for varicose veins that our board certified doctors have used and tested with great results in our vein treatment centers.

Varicose veins are just enlarged branches of the venous system. They are a symptom of venous insufficiency, often accompanied by feelings of heaviness, tiredness, swelling and pain in the legs. They are annoying and oftentimes ugly, but never are they dangerous or life threatening. Treating them is done electively and laser ablation is one of the curative techniques.

What is Laser Ablation?

Laser ablation is a minimally invasive procedure performed on an outpatient basis in one of our 7 vein treatment offices across New Jersey. As with all of our treatments, we begin with a consultation about the procedure and perform an ultrasound (duplex) exam to confirm the diagnosis and determine the best treatment options. It is very important that the ultrasound be performed properly. Those with experience in performing these types of tests recognize this as a simple, yet important, test to determine the appropriate treatment. Once a plan has been identified, the procedure can be scheduled based upon your convenience.

The ablation is performed with the use of only local anesthesia, so that there are no general anesthesia risks. The local anesthetic minimizes any pain or discomfort without the risks usually associated with general anesthesia. The procedure takes less than one hour, and, upon discharge, you are able to walk about on your own and resume most activities.

Laser ablation is an excellent fix for someone with varicose veins, and choosing the correct vein treatment center and board certified doctor will help secure a positive outcome. The doctors at the Vein Institute of New Jersey perform these procedures on a regular and routine basis. They have the experience as well as proper training and knowledge to ensure that “yes, laser ablation does work”.
